Just be aware tht the state reserve is the National Guard. They may call it the Connecticut National Guard, but the "National" is the Good Old USA. Half or more of the reservists in Afgnastan are National Guard Troops. The state reserves are really U.S. Army Reserve units, the U.S. equates to National in the National Guard. Actually the National Guard is more controled by the state Governors than are the reserves, and even that is with the approval of the Federal Gov. I don't mean to discourage you from joining the military. I was an Army Recruiter for 3 years 9 months, during the time the draft was discontinued. One of my pet peeves is "recruiters not telling prospects the truth". That has ruined a lot of good young mens lives. Even if they are not recruiters, when they don't tell the "truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth" they are setting you, the prospect, up to take the fall not themselves. Do as you wish, but do it with your eyes wide open. The benifits are awesome but the cost can be pretty steep also. smile.png

I was actually talking about state ran military not the state stationed US military. Like this one in Ga http://gasdf.com/index.htm

I requested to join infantry to my recruiter but he thinks I should join speical forces or jump school cause I am very fit and muscular compared to the small, skinny, fat kids he's seen trying to join the army.

OMG You said fat. You'll never fit into to today's PC Army,

Has anyone joined the reserves and what's your thoughts on it?  Any info would be great before I officially join.

During wartime (which will not end, because of the economy), you will be deployed immediately overseas.  I don't know any reservists who are home.

We are probably going to fight some skirmishes with Iran, over their nuke program, unless they actually get a bomb.  Then we will be their best friend, like we are with every other bomb-owning country.

I mentioned that the "war" will not end while the economy is down.  What would our economy do with 100,000 unemployed people?  No, they need to stay in, unfortunately.

Sorry about that rebelcowboysnd, I didn't know they existed. Does every state have and outfit like that? The portion of their mission that says "augment the Georgia National Guard" would still give me some concern however.

Every state as far as I know has its own militia that can be called upon by the government at any time.

Is that the National Guard? Or no?

Of course the National Guard gets called out for local emergencies as well as being capable of being federalized. Fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and riots just to name a few.

I dont know if every state has a military like that but I bet a lot do.

They probably can be deployed over seas but my understanding is that the USDOD can not call them up. Only the GaDOD can do that.

The National Defense Authorization Act 2008 Pub.L. 110-181
Repeals provisions in section 1076 in Pub.L. 109-364 but still enables the President to call up the National Guard of the United States for active federal military service during Congressionally sanctioned national emergency or war. Places the National Guard Bureau directly under the Department of Defense as a joint activity. Promoted the Chief of the National Guard Bureau from a three-star to a four-star general.

Excepted from Wikipedia. I suggest you read the entire article here:
