What a pretty shade of purple.  Reminds me of dyed chicks, although the squirrel pics look like photoshop (eta...it will be interesting to see what the hair samples come up with big_smile.png).

I'm thinking maybe dyed because it looks like some of the hair, especially on the tail area, looks like it didn't get enough coverage.  When I was 13 my hair color turned out like that once. lol.png

Hey, I see blue, pink, purple, etc. hair all the time on kids....maybe the animals want to have a little fun too.yesss.gif

Mama to 2 hens and 1 rooster, 4 dogs~~~2 rescued greyhounds from the racetrack, a hound mix and a rat terrier, both strays.  Also "Mimi" to 5 grandkids, who keep me busy going to their school soccer, basketball and volleyball games.  All's well in the mountains of NC on my 10-acre mini farm.

I wonder if the little fellow ran through some sort of berry plant?  We used to have purple squirrels because they had a tendency to run through mature Poke (Polk)  Berry plants to avoid predators.

Married to the old dude, 0 human kids, 2 horses, 10 cockatiels, 2 parakeets, 1 sun conure, 1 amazon parrot,  1 eccentric peacock, 1 gsd, 1 pet terrapin and 17 world famous Jersey Giants!

?? Good thought.  Around here in the autumn when squirrels are removing the hulls from black walnuts they are 'dyed' orange/brown back to their hind quarters.

That squirrel's parents don't understand her.  They are so stupid.

And they are RUINING HER LIFE! [door slam]

When I was at EWU, in Cheney, WA, we tracked white-footed deer mice, with powdered dye, like that.  There was red, yellow, pink and purple.  The important thing was that the powder glows vividly, under UV.  So we'd trap the mice, put them in a paper bag, with some powder and shake them up, like we were coating chicken in flour.

then we let them go.  Watching a day-glo-pink mouse run off, leaving day-glo foot prints was never a let-down.

Then we would come back at night with out UV lamps and search the area, until we found their glowing footprints.  Follow them back to their burrows and mark distances and whatnot.

In a day or two, the mice looked just like the squirrel.
