"Your Lists," and "stuff," article?

I thought I once came across an article about the lists in our profile. A tutorial maybe? Darned if I can find it now. Maybe I am just imagining it.

If there is one, please direct me to it.

Perhaps because it's such a complex site?  I had to do a little sleuthing to find it.  It makes sense to me -- now -- that it's titled Community Profile tutorial, but I didn't think of it.  It will take us all some time.

It would be nice to have all those tutorials in one place, together. Maybe they are, but I sure can't figure it out. I search and keep getting dead ends, like to the old site's stuff that is not even relevant here.

I keep getting referred to this thread (which is a sticky):  http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/16110/required-suggested-reading-for-the-byc-forum/0_30    and start clicking and get a bunch of dead links.

Maybe those old threads should be deleted and new ones made?

I still do not understand those "lists" and "show stuff in your signature."

The only option for "lists" is Breeds and Products........... right? And that comes from articles in the .... in the something place. barnie.gif     And the only option for stuff is "Your Lists," or "Your Albums," and I guess to those having auctions, it must include "your auctions," too. I don't see that option on mine currently anyway (I have no auctions)............

Both "products," and "breeds," are listed under "reviews."

Click on the brown "Breeds," tab and it goes to "Reviews."

I do not understand this stuff AT ALL. I did not consider myself all that stupid, until trying to navigate this site.  I can not find anything..........  The search function requires a tutorial to use it, too. (Yes, I had to use the tutorial to figure it out.).... and I STILL get lost.

I just wanted to make my own darned list. I don't see it as an option.

Guess I will stick to the forums and stay in my familiar threads.  I give up.

The sticky thread you mentioned, http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/16110/required-suggested-reading-for-the-byc-forum has the list of tutorials in it, in the document labeled FAQ, item #2.  It's been updated to include information about the new platform.  I just went through that post and did not find any broken links.  However -- we are finding broken links scattered around the site, and fixing them as we find them, or as they are reported.  Evidently this happened during the conversion.  If you still find broken links, please point them out.

On lists, if you are trying to make a personal list of your items, like a grocery list, you're right, I think.  I don't see a way to use it except to make a list of things here.  Of course that database will grow as people add more and more to it.  .

And yes, breeds moves you over to reviews, which includes breeds and products like incubators, for right now, anyway.  I know Rob has plans for that area.

Is there something in particular that you want in your sig line?

I know people are having some trouble with the new search.  I also know that powerful search engines have a learning curve -- and I'm not very far up that curve yet, either.  But it's one of the things members asked for, over and over, on the old site.  I guess now that we have it, we need to learn more about how to use it.

Don't give up, just take it at your own speed.  Or at least that's what I have to do!  It doesn't take being a Rhodes scholar, or we'd all be in trouble.  I still find something new most every day.

I get impatient and easily frustrated. Just one (or two) of my flaws.

I guess I will stop doing this then.........
