Peepers in my Future

Well, I just bought my first incubator. I do believe I'm doomed. Haha! :)

Haha, that sounds like something I would do, too! I think for a trial run I may hatch out whatever the girls lay. I have a mixed flock at the moment, with two Dominique roos. I am going to transition over to all Dominiques eventually, because I've fallen in love with the breed and would like to focus on them. But I'm not ready to get rid of the rest of the girls yet. I have a couple of friends looking for laying hens this spring, and they don't care what breed, or if it's a cross breed, they're just looking for pets that lay eggs. So I have homes lined up for the product of a trial run already. I figure that way, once I get all set up to be serious about the Doms, I'll have an idea what I'm doing! :)

Incubators Anonymous, I may have to join. Haha! I love Dominiques because they are exactly what I need. They are great layers with large eggs even though they are slightly smaller than most standard breeds. They are friendly and alert and great foragers without being wild or skittish. They are my garden helpers. Males are almost 2 lbs larger than females, so they make decent meat birds when you have a surplus of males. They are super cold-hardy, which is important here in NH. And I just like their history, as America's first breed.
