Cruel disposal of unwanted chicks?

I don't set my roosters loose, I keep them, but again id set them loose before I'd ever slaughter em.

We are going to have to disagree on this subject. I am discussing reality. You are trying to get me to agree to something 'you would do before killing them.'

My point being, you would 'set yours free' before you would kill them yourself. What you fail to realize or accept is that they will meet a HORRIBLE death from a predator.

I happen to think that a humane death at my hands is less cruel than the rooster being killed by another animal.

The fact is there are countless chickens in the wild that have survived, ever heard of feral chickens?
I've seen some wild chickens myself...

None exist here.

You are lucky to have never been visited by a predator.

Not always.. The woods give the chicken plenty of room to run free away from predators, again they have way more of a chance.

I live in the middle of the woods, which do provide cover from aerial attacks, but can provide cover and aid in a fox or bobcat attack. Unless a chicken takes to the air and can land on something, trust me, it's not going to out run a fox. The fox is also great at hiding and coming out at a chicken from a very short distance.
Plus a domestic animal or bird has learned to depend on us for both food (doesn't need as much when foraging during the growing times of the year) and water.
