Very cute Sherrie!

The difference between breakfast and chicks, is the temperature you use to "cook" the eggs!

I have 7 Trader Joe eggs under my broody Buff Orpington.  I'm a bit worried about bacteria since I know the TJ eggs have been washed and sanitized (for public consumption).   I really want to candle them to see if there is any hope of development.  I'm not expecting anything, but for under $3 it was worth the experiment.  Last time I thought Buffy was broody, I got her 5 fertile EE eggs, but she didn't stay on them so I had to incubate them.  (All 5 hatched in my bator!)

Well, Buffy has been sitting on the TJ eggs for over a week non-stop except to eat, drink and poop once a day. thumbsup.gif

Wife of 1 wonderful husband, homeschooling mom to 1 super son and "MamaRoo" to 1 Shih-Tzu (that can't be trusted around my chicks), 1 RIR, 1 BO, 1 PBR and we provide room & board to occasional Cornish X (give or take 8 weeks)!

5 Easter Egger chicks and 16 Silkie chicks!

Buffy has been sitting on her TJ eggs for 12 days now. celebrate.gifI finally candled all 6 eggs.  5 out of 6 had developing embryos!  Yeah!  Wishing her luck to be a mommy in 9 more days! fl.gif

OK... Im so happy that I started back on this thread as I've got 12 Whole Foods eggs that are setting and are on day 10 and still not sure what we're looking at.  Possibly embryos lost during the cleaning process?? who knows.  I'd love to be able to post pics of the fluff butts from WF.  TJs are close too and if DH isn't looking too closely I just may sneak another dozen in.  aaaah I love this.  Please please keep up the posts!  I'll show you mine if you show me yours!  Jane

Today is Day 16 for my TJ eggs!  I checked the eggs again the other day because I thought something "smelled".  You've got to remember that these eggs are under my broody Buff Orpington!  I figured (and it still might happen) that they would get bacteria exposed if they even developed.  Anyway, I lifted Buffy off the nest and made her eat and drink for the first time in days.  She is taking this Momma Hen job seriously!  I smelled each egg and checked for leakage and everything was good.  Some of the pine shavings however were damp and soiled.  I' pretty sure it was from Buffy "holding it in".  She walked around like she had constipation - poor thing!  I changed the nesting material and Buffy went back on the eggs.

Hatch day could be Thursday or Friday. fl.gif  I'll post any updates.
