FYI: I found a good deal on pine shavings- a big compacted bag for $8 at Kmart. I know a lot of you probably get them for free but I don't have a source that I trust.  ):

Wouldn't Sawdust be very dusty? How many cubic feet are in the bag of shavings for $8?

It's this stuff. It's packed down to 2 cubic feet but says it expands to 4 cubic feet. I've tried sawdust and it seemed to hold moisture longer than the shavings. I've also used shavings from a local wood working shop but they were pokey and made my eyes burn  ): Not sure why. I've been really happy with these pine shavings- they help keep the coop dry, smell good and a little dusty when I dump them out, but not afterwards.

At my local feed mill a compressed 8 cubic feet bag or pine shavings is $5. Check out a farm store to see if they have a better price.

Orscheln had it on sale for $5.00. I could be wrong but I thought it was 10 cubic feet.

I'm sure the birds would like that! I don't know about you but when I clicked the link, I got PEOPLE beds, lau.gif

There was a message that the product was no longer available.

I found this though:

Can't tell much from the picture but it looks like paper fluff or something. And I'm dubious about the "odor control" claim. If that means fragrances to mask odors, it isn't coming within a mile of our house.
