Waterer nipples with 5 gal. Bucket reservoir help

Wow! Way more complicated than what I did. I just drilled holes in the bottom of the 5 gal bucket, screwed in the nipples, and hung them up. Three buckets provide ample water for 20 chickens and no leaks.

I started out that way but since I don't have a hose down at my coop, I have to take my bucket to the hose. With the nipples are on the bucket, you can't sit it down to fill it. Of course I had to waste a good bucket to find that out!!!! lol

It appears that you are using O rings when you should use washers. These sizes are what I used you can adjust to suit yourself. To get from your supply to the nipple run a PVC 3/4" thread to tubing. Rubber washers in and out with plastic nut found in the el. dept. On the nipple side a PVC 3/4" tubing to slip fitting.
To keep it from freezing I added a Little Giant Fountain Pump. Found at Lowe's $12.00. The water circulates from the bottom run and back to the supply. The pictures were taken before I installed the pump but you get the idea.

Yeah, that makes sense. you could use a separate bucket for hauling the water though. maybe use a wagon to ease the hauling part. or a kid (hee hee i have two boys...) i have two well heads about the same distance away from the coop. makes me wish now that i made the coop in the play house instead of the shed, the play house is closer. luckily though, the previous owners left a huge long utility hose attached to one of the well heads, so even if it doesnt stretch the whole way, it will get close enough to make the hauling part shorter.

I just finished making my 5 gallon bucket with 4 nipples, and now i have to hang it before i can use it. Hubby is still working in his office and I already interrupted him to ask if the battery for the cordless drill was charging or charged and ready to go...now i need a hook to screw into the frame, a chain for hanging, and a metal handle. i already used up one bucket by trying to see if i could get away with putting vertical nipples on the side of the bucket. turns out i had the wrong size bit in my drill anyway, but it still leaked after i fixed that and installed them in a different hole on the other side (grrr, measure twice cut once, yeah?) so now it is my sitting bucket - the bucket i sit on to watch my pretty girls.
