Sour Crop CURED with Monistat

Pics
Yay, I'm so glad to read that it's working, yay for the starter of this thread! We lost one lovely chicken early on to complications from soured crop before we knew about this and it made us very upset, but it's a relief to know that there is a way to treat this particular problem. The chicken we treated, Goldie, is still healthy and recovered as ever, just moulted and has her new feathers. good to hear about your chicken.
Going to try it now. I have a 10 week old chicken. It may be impacted, but I’m going to try.
so what does everyone do with their eggs from the hens they treat with monistat ??

One more word of appreciation…
Princess Buttercup hadn’t laid an egg in a few days. I thought she was starting to molt given the time of year. She separated herself from the rest of the flock and seemed to feel kind of crummy. She’s a year and a half old Buff Orpington. Big and beautiful, but everyone eventually goes through a molt, right?
A day later I noticed that the general crop area (on both sides) seemed quite a bit larger than usual. I happen to be reading about sour crop for another hen and realized that the symptoms I’d been reading about were very similar to Buttercup’s. When I felt the crop area it seemed swollen. I wasn’t sure if it was like a “water balloon”, but I knew it wasn’t right so I decided to give Monastat a try. She definitely felt like crap and needed help. She wasn’t eating, laying, socializing, bathing, or drinking.
I brought her inside and fed her some yogurt with applesauce a tiny bit at a time. She ate a few olive oil scrambled eggs, but wasn’t wild about them. I gave her some water and let her rest in a nice warm room. I decided to let her sleep with the others and also spend several hours outside in the evening so that she could be around the flock. After three 1/3 pieces of Monastat 3, she perked up and started to eat some food on her own. Her crop wasn’t completely normal (still a little swollen with a bit of food in it) when she got up, but it was a huge improvement. I let her stay outside with the flock and continued to medicate her twice a day.
After 3 full days of meds, Buttercup was behaving like herself. She had quite the spa bath last night in the garden :) I’ve continued to medicate her. She has one last dose tonight and I’m confident that she’s rid of that terrible yeast infection. Thank you so much for all of the guidance in dealing with this. I am very grateful for the advice of so many!

That's what I would do. 1ml per 5 pounds for five days. Get me all of there weights and I'll figure out the doses if you want. You can find Safeguard liquid for goats in the goat/cattle section of Tractor Supply. Ignore the dosing on the bottle, it's for goats and goats get *way* less per pound than poultry. Don't ask me why, lol, they just do.

I am curious, how do you know if a chicken has a yeast/fungal infection? Is there a smell as well as the weezing, and goupy eyes etc. And what would be the best thing to try first? Like the post below, stating 250 plus on things that did not work, I am also struggling and want to see what I can do that is going to work not waste my money and cause my hen to die. Thank you for any and all advice.
