Pigeon courtship

Hi i just bought 30 pigeons and i have them in a temporary pen and i put 4 buckets in the pen all the cocks jumped up on them and the toughest got to stay well a hen jumped up onto it and they did there courtship thing and he mated her and they dont like to leave that bucket or each other so will they have babies there or what and since I'm going to be putting them in my loft will they still be mates and will they have there nest in my loft?

Yes, yes and yes.   Those are all signs of a mated up and ready to breed/nest pair. They are way easy to breed as you are finding out.. even a bucket will do as a nest.  They will stay paired up and immediately choose a new nest spot when moved to the loft. No problem at all.

Take away the buckets if they are going to moved within next few weeks, otherwise they are going to lay eggs and raise babies in that bucket.. you will not be able to move the eggs or babies to the loft and expect the parents to look after them. Will have to wait until the babies are fledged before moving the parents.  Or you can just remove the eggs and replace with fake, in that case they can be moved any time.

sounds normal and okay. Do you have any pictures? Did you buy 30 at once?

yes, they will figure that out. but if they already mated, you may want to get them situated SOON, because once she pumps that sucker out, there's no going back!

Can't wait for the pictures!

Pretty cool and seems you are having fun with them!

Yes he and she will remember each other and the birds will choose their favored nest boxes- there may be some fighting especially between two boys trying to choose and own a specific nest but that is normal and they will settle it rather quickly.
