White egg yolk?

So we cracked open an egg today and found something pretty strange. It was a white egg yolk that was actually firm to the touch. Any ideas what happened here?

is it possible that it's an egg within an egg?  I've seen those posted here now and then. Did you open it up? What did you find?  How old is the hen that laid it?

Mommy to BR (Onyx), 2 Delaware (Pearl & Opal), BO (Ruby), Blue Silkie (Amber), Splash Silkie (Raine), 2 Golden Laced Orps (Goldie & Lacey), 2 EE (Bunny & Rabbit) & 2 Blk Javas (Crow & Butterfly)!

Also a Pit/Mastiff mix, an American Bulldog, 1 cat, a guinea pig, a bearded dragon, and a koi pond.

Oh.. can't forget my daughter, granddaughter, step-son, and wonderful husband!

Do you mean firm like a regular yolk or harder than that? Very odd, either way. Not the first egg from that chicken, is it? Did you eat  it? Could just be a one-time computer glitch.

hmm. I know this sounds gross but if a human has white stool it can mean either liver problems or it passed through to quickly. I know it's probably not the case with your hen but you never know! ..

When I say firm, I mean harder than a normal yolk. It felt like a ball! Maybe it IS an egg within an egg. I should go open the yolk and see what comes out.

Also, this chick is about 7 or 8 months old so it's not her first egg!

Here is what was inside. The white of it was actually pretty hard to poke through with a sharp knife!

It's an egg in an egg. It's a perfectly normal, but strange, occurrence.
