Cuckoo marans

Thank you. Can you tell she loves it on top of the waterer? That's where she is in both pics. She is very sweet and friendly. I just love her. It's kind of hard to see her coloring because of the red brooder light, but she definitely has the black and white pattern like the Cuckoo Marans. It doesn't really matter to me what she is. I am just curious and have a few chicks that are breeds I am unsure of. Just trying to figure them out. I love her no matter what she is. She is one of my favorites. I would just like to know just for the sake of knowing.

I totally understand. I rescued my hens (my first hens ever) and I researched like crazy trying to figure out what they were, just out of curiosity and an obsession for details.) That's actually how I got onto the BYC forum.

I can't speak for gender Chickie Lady, but as quickly baby that is what my baby looks like right now and is supposedly a pullet, best of luck though! She's very pretty!

@Saerasx I am sure she is a girl. I'm just trying to find out for sure if she is Cuckoo Marans or not. I am really thinking that she is. Thank you for your input and for the compliment.

Well, now her feet are looking more yellowish. Brings me back to thinking barred rock again. I sure am confused about which breed she is. I put her pic on a thread for help with identifying breeds also and that's what the two people who responded seem to think she is. I guess time will tell.

We just lost three of four of our two month old Cuckoo Maran pullets today to Ravens. I'm hoping the other older chickens will "take her in" and protect her. Our Splash Maran hen was hanging with them and "mothering them, but she's now broody and sitting on eggs. I've never had a single chicken age wise, will they let her join the flock by herself?

So sad! Im starting to worry about birds now...I occasionally see a hawk here and there, but never in our yard. Sometimes scrub jays will low fly in our yard. Im thinking of getting a Peck and Play until the girls are old enough to free range around our small yard and I know they will be safe. I was thinking I would be letting them free range without me around but after so many predator posts lately Im really second guessing that decision.

Cuckoo Marans

I have six , five wk old Marans
Growing very fast, I'm trying to guess the sexes
There is a huge difference between two of the six
They are much much lighter( more white than black)

My other four look mostly black, I've heard this can be a sign of a hen being darker?
But to confuse me, one of the black hens is getting a red comb and the bit under its chin
So I think I might have 3/3

I have 5 cuckoo marans, but when I picked them up along with the rest of my order I added two barred rock chicks. At 5 weeks old, I still can't tell which are which. They look identical as chicks as far as I can see.
