This is a 4 week old golden tux/ or pied quail next to a Jumbo wild colored hen. What is this birds color? Anyone.

This is a bird I hatched myself. I was just not expecting this color! In this pen I have 5 A&M white Quail, I picked these hens up from the breeder myself. All his quail where white with the small black spots characteristic of A&M's. The father I hatched out of a batch of 50 mixed color Coturnix, that I ordered from a lady on E-Bay. I had a coon pull the hinges off the cage, then tear apart my brooder, when they where 4 weeks old, and this little man was the only survivor. What Color is he? Any idea why I would have gotten a chick like this? The rest of the hatch where white. Thought I think I have another of these that just hatch last night, in a second batch.

People call goldens by several different names depending the color scheme, while others say a golden is a golden...I would call that color "Italian".

Thank you bfrancis, Thats what I thought he was. I assumed I would get more like him and whites. Is it strange to get that color of a baby? I wonder if it would breed true if I could get a few more to cross it with.

I don't think it would ever breed true because of it having both dominate and recessive genes displayed, but you should get a 50% hatch rate true
If "A" was the roux dilute/golden gene and "a" was the white gene, 25% would be white, 25% would be roux dilute/golden, and 50% would be your new tux. Keep in mind, when breeding goldens to goldens they have a "lethal" gene that I think the statics are 30% hatch rate failure...but that is a chance I would take to continue your project here. also food for thought, when I am refering to the goldens I mean the genes from the original male...since yours now are displaying roux dilute color, you might not have the lethal gene issue, although it would be in the mix because of the original parent stock.
