I know!!!!  It's so funny!  I'm pregnant right now and people ask me how much longer and I give them the number of days as if baby is guaranteed to come on our due date.  Oh, well.  It's nice to have a general time frame (although, chicks tend to be pretty prompt, from what I've heard). fl.gif

I put my first hatching eggs ever in last night around 10pm so guess we are on the same schedule :) I have never hatched before, I borrowed an incubator from my son's teacher and I am doing a trying to hatch some fertile RIR eggs I bought from the local farmers market. I bought their last 6 fertile eggs. After getting the incubator as close as possible to what the manual says in they went. I'm going to candle in a couple of days and see what I can see :)

Yeah i'm kinda a beaver fan myself!  Head always goes to the gutter, same when I tell people I trap them!

Anyway, how is your heat and humidity going?  Mine has been fluctuating slightly because I live in a drafty old farm house.  I have been on top of it fairly well and it has not been mor than a couple (2) degrees either way and the same for the humidity.  This is the first time I have ever incubated eggs and not sure of the fertility to begin with.  The spring bug has really bitten and have to go and order some chicks saturday to coincide with the perspective hatch!

Awww, that's wonderful!  My family is the biggest blessing in my life. love.gif Much harder waiting on those babies to be born than chicks, that's for sure.  Wishing you joyous & healthy pregnancy.

Here is a picture of some of my eggs in my Hova-Bator with an egg turner.  I couldn't get all 17 eggs in the picture through the small window and the thermometer on top caused a glare in the other photos.  I hear about others not being able to see well when candling darker colored eggs.  Does that mean this color blue or something really dark like Marans eggs?  Can hardly wait until it is time to candle them to see if they are developing in a few days.

I set Mallard duck eggs in mine... This is my first time...  We were letting the ducks sit on there  eggs but after 2 and a half months and none hatching we thought  this isnt going to work...  Not sure what was going wrong, but they had over 80 eggs in there.... Finally we had to do something poor girls were not looking so good.  We bought the 9200 to and egg turner, no fan...  hope it will work with out it....  Also if anyone wants some duck eggs or ducklings,  if they hatch,  PM me and we can work something out... Will also trade for chicken eggs or chicks...   We really dont want any more ducks.... Right now we have 2 female and 1 male Mallard Ducks, 5 chickens and a rabbit...    We know for sure that 2 of our chickens are females but the other 3 we dont know yet for sure...

How is everyone's hatch going?

I woke up this morning to 2 pips and chirping.  Only 5 of my 17 Ameraucana eggs developed and went into lock down.

If I don't hear chirping while they are still in the egg (no pips), is that a bad thing?  We haven't candled (for two reasons: one, we don't have a candler yet and, two, I'm afraid I'd do it wrong or toss out the wrong ones), so, I'm just waiting for some fuzzybutts to hatch.  There are no funny smells to indicate rotting eggs, so, hopefully that's a good thing!

After seeing so many videos and hearing about other being able to hear their eggs chirp, I was concerned with the same silence.  I did not hear any chirping within the eggs until they actually started work hard at breaking through the shell.  I have one hatched that took 6 hours and the 2nd egg that has a small pip is progressing much slower that the first one.
