Turkey Hen - Age? Think she'll lay?

Hey friends,

I don't get on here much but I have a quick question. I'm not sure of the age of my turkey hen we have and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or ways to tell. We're hoping for turkey eggs :) We found her in September 2011 (not too long ago, yes) and put her in our coop just recently in January considering she always stayed around there and didn't have a flock of her own. What are some good ways to tell age and/or whether or not she will lay? All responses are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Louieandthecrew

I am not sure how to tell the age, but turkeys usually lay between April and July, so it's a short laying cycle, and I wouldn't expect eggs any time soon.

If she appeared to be full-sized when you brought her home last year then she should start to lay this spring sometime.  Exactly when depends on her variety and your local conditions.  Some time in March to late April usually.

Awesome! Thank you all for the input. She's definitely full grow and she's definitely a girl, but that really all I have to say!

PS. I haven't been on here since before the new setup for the site was made, so could someone tell me how to put up a picture? Thank you very much :)
