EE, Barred rock cross

i do not have nor had any other roo's except him, other than his offspring in the pic, i am not doubting you at all.l i bought him at a feed store 3 yrs ago as a set of ten BR pullets, he was the 10% that wasn't guaranteed a pullet. when i hatched out the eggs from my Orp's that is what I got. Do you think he may be mixed? I am confused now.

yes I got her from a lady last summer who was having family problems and had to move away. she had the EE, a BR and 2 BO's SHe is the only hen I have that lays a blue tinted egg. the others all lay brown eggs. I hatched these myself and watched one of them come out of the egg, it came out with a blue/gray fluff (once dried and fluffy ) and then feathered out as you see them in the photo's, I just hope it doesn't change after their first molt.

It won't, don't worry.

I'm going to assume that maybe it's just poor barring that makes it so blue, or maybe the photo makes her blue look blue, who knows. If she has a green sheen to her black feathers, that's black alright. If they are very dull when taken a photo of with flash, they're blue. The rooster looks normal though, no blue carriage going on there.

My brother got a blue chicken crossed with a Naked Neck x ?. There were no chickens in that pen that had blue in them and as far as we know no blue in the background. Just happens.........................................................................................................................................................................................................

i will try and hatch some more of her eggs to see what comes out. can i breed the brother to the sisters? if so what do you think will be the outcome? I would not mind building a flock that all look like that. I know it will take time and select breeding but do you think it will be worth it?

If they're X ? then how are you sure? Were any of them white? Buff? Lavender?

Brother x Sister is fine perhaps once, especially if the parents aren't too closely related. But from there best to go into new directions. If the birds are truly blue, breeding them to each other will give you 50% blue, 25% normal cuckoo or black, and 25% splashes.

There were some white in there.
We're guessing that she came from the Black Minorca because of her shape and size that is the best guess, altough there is a (I'll call it smuddy) white Sumatra-Old English Game cross I guess that could be the mother she has the same shape of the Minorca.
