I'm sorry. :( That's no good. I hope the hatchery takes good care of you.

We have to cull one of ours today. He's just in too much pain. I had really hoped to save him but it's just not working. This stinks.

My sweet puppy, Maggie (1yo), 3 adorable baby pet rats, Darby, Lilah, and Faye, 3 cats, 2 bunnies, a goldfish named Ghoti (pronounced "Fish"), 1 Khaki Campbell duckling, 1 Magpie duckling, and lots and lots of chickens!

Called the hatchery.  They said, "Never should have been shipped.  We will give you a credit.  Just keep trying to feed and water it.  The other chicks may cull it for you, keep an eye on it."

0.0 cull it for you? That sounds... harsh.

Sad, but true!  I have a chicken that is weak and may have been injured at some point.  She lives by herself and any time the other chickens get around her, they harrass her until she goes to hide under the porch.  I guess if I were a "real farmer", I would cull her, but she is a pet (with a name...LoL) and we just keep looking out for her.  idunno.gif

That's about how I ended up with Oliver. We got 4 chicks, all supposed to be pullets. hahahahahahahahaha!

no -_-

1 was a pullet. the other 3, obviously, weren't. Well the first one that became visibly a rooster was a meany! As soon as he noticed Oliver was a boy he attacked him. The skin on the back of his head was completely peeled away. It was gross. I nursed him back to health and he became a pet. :)

When the other rooster let himself known the first attacked him to, but I was home and saw it and was able to prevent injuries. Now the first rooster is locked up and headed for the dinner table as soon as he's big enough and the other three get along fine. :)

Rusty the rooster and his son Junior get along ok, as long as junior keeps his distance from the hens.

Here are some pictures of the chick with closed eyes.
