My moody 10 day olds :/ experienced chickie mommas, Help!

My chicks are 10 -11 days old. I have been sitting in the brooder pen daily, for HOURS, playing with, feeding, holding them. They would come right up to me, cuddle, sleep, roost, be held.

Today - HAH. No chance. I went in to sit with them, called them over, they would come look, and go right back to the light or sand box or feeders. Mostly they were flapping their new found wings that just sprouted the last few days and staring each other down while standing as tall as they could. I'm assuming that act is "establishing pecking order"? One would sit with me for a few minutes, then call it quits.

They are acting like moody little teenagers! Is this normal?

My husbands theory is this - sorry to be blunt but my period started today and he says they sense it and don't like it. Is that possible? They wouldn't come up to him either.

I did move their light last night, to the other side of the brooder pen, so it would hang better and moved it up a couple inches. They are not acting cold at all.

They are yawning allot today, and stretching tons too, and preening their new wing feathers. LOL Are my babies just growing up and don't love me anymore?!?!?! Do I have empty next syndrome already LOL

Experienced chick mommas! Help!

I noticed with mine, that when their pin feathers were coming in, they were not as friendly... But now that they've grown in, they are much more receptive to constant handling... I would think they are just a bit uncomfortable...
At the very least, wipe the poop off your feet before getting in the car.

x2. All of my chicks go through these phases. One day they'll love you, the next you're the scariest monster they've ever seen. Sounds like normal chicken nonsense to me lol.png

Just wait until they're REAL teenagers (in weeks that is) and won't even come near you!!! They're MUCH better once hormones have settled and they start laying.

lol oh boy. Who would have thought, chickens would be just like kids. Eating sand out of the sand box, fighting, throwing food, and moodiness.

I love those fuzzy little buggers. love.gif
