Anyone's Cotton Patch Geese laying?

Personally I'd pull as many as would fit under broody hen and hope they lay a second clutch.

Heh. Right now, they've got more than would fit under a trio of broody hens. But my 'scovie has definately decided that she is going to set, so my plan is to check the goose eggs for fertility & shift some under the 'Scovie. (If I recall correctly, that's about 5 goose eggs, yes?)

I'm also thinking that leaving the whole nest under the geese isn't going to work.

My plans are driven by the thought that I won't be here to watch the incubator, so pulling all the eggs & putting them in the 'bator isn't an option.

However...if I was to start up the 'bator, then put eggs in it, and re-check fertility in a week, then put viable eggs under a bird (after removing any non-viable eggs that a bird was sitting on)...to me, this sounds like a slightly better plan than randomly picking eggs pull from the nest.

Thoughts?

I have 10 goslings!!!! I think I have 3 males and 7 females.... I may have to bother Serina again. LOL

Well, our hatching season is done. We ended up with 12 goslings in all. 11 from one girl, and only one from another. It is a long story, but I wrote two long posts on my seldom updated blog, with lots of pictures. We had 4 girls, and 8 ganders. Anyone want to do some trading??

This is the link to my blog. - http://blackhorsehillfarm.blogspot.com/

And, a picture of a proud mom.

I HAVE GOSLINGS!

Blackhill, you raise up good geese, because even though I think I did nearly everything not right, it seems I have nine goslings from the two girls!

I am not home, so I don't have pictures, and I have no idea what the genders are, but my goose sitter reports that five hatched last night/this morning, and four more hatched today. There are still more eggs, but I am not expecting those to hatch.

I will be home in a couple days. And then I have to figure out what to do with the goslings...

I am so excited. I feel like I am finally helping with this great breed. Thanks so much to everyone who offered their suggestions.

Here is a picture of (some) of the lot -

And another shot...

Nine total, all tottering after Mom1 & Mom2 & Dad1 & Dad2, who are hysterically tense over the whole thing.

I have a female CPG she is about a month old now I would like to buy a gander. Is anyone in PA? Or will any one ship? I would also like to buy more if anyone has any avail. Please let me know.

PAchickenlover - if you contact me offlist, (private message) we might be able to work something out. I'm in NC, which I know is not PA, but is at least on the East Coast.

Wow, is that a bunch of cuties!

I can't take any credit for this, it would have to all go to Dr. Walker, since he is responsible for the this little genetic pool. Aren't the parent birds just hilarious over the whole thing??
