I just ordered some WLR Cornish for delivery later this month. Can anyone tell me if mail order cornish are generally up to standards as to size and wieght???? I have never had Cornish before and know little about them. They are coming from Ideal Poultry. Thanks for any info. Robroo

No.

Most hatchery/mail-order birds are going to be smaller than they should be because meat qualities and showing to the breed standard aren't what hatcheries breed for. They breed for egg production, thus, ability to make more $$ with more chicks.

Your Cornish will be smaller and less meaty than a show bird, and will basically look like a slightly gamey Wyandotte-esque bird. It depends on the hatchery though, some are better than others, but in general, no, they won't be really great. They will, though, breed better and lay better than show Cornish.
