Bought a horse!!

Some of you may remember my thread about a pony we were looking at buying....

Well, we had a vet out today and she gave her a clean bill of health and soundness.... So she came home.

Everyone, meet Taffy, our Percheron cross mare!!

My sister... She looks rather nervous... I think she is...

She's a real sweetheart. As soon as she got in the pasture area, she started eating the old brown grass. Every once in a while she'll go around the fenceline, checking her boundaries, and sometimes she'll stop and neigh. I think she's probably trying to call her stablemates, even though she was low man on the totem pole and got pushed around a lot. But she's happy. She's enjoying all the hay Hamilton (the steer) has left and won't touch, and while I was up in the barn there (we have 2) she came in out of the rain and we stood in the doorway together, just chillin' (literally... lol), and then I walked down the hill and she followed me, and then she followed me back up. This is our first time with a horse, so we are completely thrilled. We're going to use her for pulling/driving, possibly riding in the future.

I am loving her to pieces... love.gif

I'll post more pictures, as you can be sure I'll be taking lots more!

She's rather lonely tonight... Missing her 3 grouchy pony friends... They were probably better company than a disgusted steer...

There's supposed to be some severe winter weather tonight, so we are going to close her (and possibly the steer) in the barn, not tied, but the door is going to be blocked off so she can't get out. If she and the steer just can't get along together he'll go outside... He's a hardy little thing and can survive in some wind and snow. But with this being Taffy's first night here, without other ponies to keep her company, we thought it best to keep her in.

On a side note, her price was wicked awesome, and the seller included her fitted collar, 2 bits, and her blanket. For no extra fee. It's even cooler that she gets her harnesses done by the same fellow who does harnesses for the couple from whom my sister and I are learning all the tricks of the trade as far as draft horses go. And that's where we'll be getting ours done as well, I believe. He makes some amazing harnesses, let me tell you, and for really good prices.

Read your earlier thread, and my gut tells me that you made a wise purchase.  Enjoy her.

She is really cute. It looks so wintery there. We are having such a mild winter. It is beginning to look like spring here.

I am not sure there ever was a winter this year down here.

Lovely pony!  I love Percherons!  I have a neighbor who raises them and I go down his road just so I can slow down and look at them all.  I love it when he has babies out there.
