Look what I got for free today!

D.gif  Today I went and picked up my free chickens. 3 hens and a big roo, they are Black Cochins! I can't wait to see them outside again, their green shows up so much better outside. I will add more pics when they are out tomorrow. But I had to share with people that will love them as much as I do.DSCN0147.JPG

I was told they are only 8 months old!

I am trying to come up with a name for the Roo. His is just so big and manly I want a ruff tuff name for him, like Zuse or  Apollo.  He is not mean so far, I had to catch them myself and he did not try and attack me when I went after his girls first.

Guess we will see how he acts for the next few days.

Oh how lucky are you!?! They're beautiful. I have a LF Black Cochin roo who's about 10 months old, he's such a sweetie pie. Are your hens bearded? It could just be the picture, but they look bearded to me. So cute!

They are a good looking group of chickens.  I love my jumbo Cochins - they are quite sweet tempered.  My rooster is three years old and has spurs that are three inches long, but he has never tried to kick me.  This is not the best photo of Colin, but you can see one spur among his feathers.    Zeus is a great name idea.  You could go to a Greek mythology web site and get inspiration for the hens' names, too.
