Locked down just now. Waiting for humidity to rise. Only had a couple eggs not go, no growth early on. I also have a broody sitting on 4 that should hatch soon.

Trying my best to care for; 1 Great Wife, 2 Beautiful Daughters, 1 Spoiled Boxers and Chickens; 1 BO, 1 Black JG, 6 BLRW, 2 Lavender Wyandottes, Some EEs, Black Sex Links, and just plain chickens.

Ok. results now. Out of 11 black copper marans eggs I got 7 chicks. 1 had internal pip but died and 3 never developed. So, out of the 7 I have in my brooder 2 or 3 dont look black copper....they look blue. They came out of really dark eggs but I wanted black coopers. I got the eggs at e bay but found the sellers website and found that the photo they used for selling the black copper was one of their winning blue marans eggs. Of the 7 I have one that came out a egg really dark....a 8 I suppose in the color chart. Hope that one is a girl.Still wet but looks black copper. Is still weak from the hatching but hope is going to be ok.

Congratulations on the 7 babies!  That's really good for shipped eggs, especially when they are so dark you can't see anything when you candle.  I don't know anything about Marans, so does their color genetics work like Blue/Black/Splash in other breeds? I have Ameraucana that are B/B/S and I know I can get percentages of each color depending on what colors I match up. My first batch this year was perfectly matched up to this chart, it was kind of funny. tongue.png

Black x Black = 100% Black

Black x Blue= 50% Black and 50% Blue

Blue x Blue = 25% Black, 50% Blue, 25% Black

Blue x Splash =50% Splash and 50% Blue

Splash x Splash = 100% Splash

Wheaten/Blue Wheaten/Splash Wheaton work the same way in Ameraucanas.  If it is like that in Marans maybe that explains why you have both colors.  idunno.gif

I woke up to several pips, and I just went and checked because I heard lots crying, and I just had my first baby hatch!  ya.gif  Looks like it will be a blue roo.  Hard to be sure at this point, but the comb is so wide ep.gif and it isn't dark enough to be black- I think.

I have 8-9 fuzzy butts so far and more pips. good luck guys.
