Need to band yours today so I can visually tell it from the others while they grow out.
Marty we do have three additional goslings all about the same age range as the first two. I need to look closely at their backs, heads, ect before saying yes that's the one. Will go sit with them today during the babies nap and give them a good once over. I pretty firm on the white goose being good. The gander I need to look at as I can't remember his back line this morning.

Celtic,

One of my young ganders is marked identically to Caboosh as well. The other two are younger, so I hope you are right and their markings will clean up with their adult feathers. Tex, the younger goose doesn't have bad markings...just not as good as my adults or her older sister. The two I lost had great markings as well (one goose....one gander).

I am glad it looks like the one you got will be marked nicely. It looks like the one I have from Kawonu in the juvenile area is going to have really nice markings as well. I don't know how to vent sex: I have to wait for the head and beak to take their adult shape before I'll know if it is a girl or boy. At least with my geese, the females skulls are rounder with more pronounce cheeks and smaller beak by the time they hit about 2-3 months.

If you don't mind me asking, what bands do you use on your birds?

Oh, just a bit of a funny story. Our 26 year old son and his fiance moved in a couple months ago (lost their jobs). A couple days ago he comes running to get me in the garden. "I think something got one of the ducks!", he yells. So, we haul butt up to the front pond. My front yard literally looked like a white bird had exploded all over the place. I looked at the feathers and could tell they were both duck and goose....did a quick head count and everyone was fine. It seems that they all went into moult at the same time: the two adult geese, 2 pekin ducks, and all my fawn&white runners. The poor boy almost had himself a heart attack. He didn't know they lost their feathers. lol.png

Mom to 3 human children, 2 golden retrievers, 1 cat, 3 goats, 1 horse, 100+ chickens (Ameraucanas, BCM, Dark Cornish, BR, Orpingtons, Easter Eggers, RIR, & GNH), 19 ducks (runner, pekin, khaki, cayuga, silver appleyard, welsh harlequin), 14 Buff Saddleback Pomeranian & 2 Toulouse Geese, 13 turkeys, 3 guinea fowl, 4 guinea pigs, & a Senegal parrot.

Julie, has it externally pipped yet??

I'm pretty excited to do my day 21 weigh in/mark air cell this afternoon on my 6 grey dewlaps.  Still only think 4 will make it, as the other 2 have bad air cells... but they are very strong movers, so I'll stay hopeful about them.  Not having the same luck with my most recent set of buff eggs, though.  As of day 7, I have 1 spider with a bad air cell, 1 quitter, 2 trying to develop, and 1 doing nothing.  Hubby accidentally let the temperature drop to 96-97 for one of the days I was out of town last week, so I will definitely wait until day 10 to toss, just in case the remaining eggs are slow to start.  If I can just get one buff to develop, I'll be happy, as 3 of the 4 cayuga eggs are looking like they will develop.  Otherwise, depending on how well my greys hatch... I too may be buying a pair of buff goslings from Carole.

Not yet. I opened the hole I made a tiny bit bigger so I can look in there better. His bill is out enough that it's touching and tapping at the shell, but not in a normal pip spot. It's right at the middle of the big end. The membrane also has 3-4 holes, like he kept internal pipping, going back under, and internal pipping again. idunno.gif No shrinkwrap or anything, still looking good so I'll let him go for awhile and see what he does.

Very interesting, Julie! Glad he is active and you are skilled enough to create a peep hole without disturbing inner membrane and baby!
