Dead Gene?

Thread Starter

My husband and I just put eggs in a brooder tonight... black Easter Eggers (in blue eggs).  He read that a quarter of them will come out dead... from this gene they have... is this true?

No,  the Araucana not the easter egger has a tufting gene that is lethal in two copies.  If you have two tufted parents 25% of the chicks will die before they hatch.  You have nothing to worry about.
