I just posted a similar thread, then found this one. I too have BLR Wyandotte chicks coming in from McMurray this Saturday. I've never had the breed before and am excited to try them out. While I've been happy with McMurray chicks before I don't know what to expect with this breed. Hope someone with experience with them posts!

Hey Guys, I have ordered several times from Mcmurray with great results they do have some nice birds. I however was very disapointed with my Mcmurray BLRW they were all Splash in color. You will not get any true Blue's or Black's from them and that is what I was looking for. The only thing I can think of is there breeder has a Splash Rooster over a Splash Hen this producing 100% Splash chicks. I ended up selling all the chicks I got from them and ended up spending the extra money to buy a breeding trio. I have a Splash rooster over 1 Blue hen and 1 Black hen this producing 150% Blue chicks and 50% Splash chicks. If you have anymore questions about this breed feel free to ask? I also have pics of my breeders under the photo forum on this site. Also someone posted pics of there BLRW chicks there if you look and read my post you will see what all the chicks look like the middle chick is a splash and this is what all the chicks you get from Mcmurray will look like. They will be whiteish with some red but no blue with red.

Hey Everyone, The hen to the far left hiding is a Black Laced. The hen in the middle is a true Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and the Rooster is a Splash. You can expect all your Mcmurray chicks to be the exact same color as my rooster and the hens will be just the front color pattern on his chest. But having said that none of the BLRW's I've seen from Mcmurray are this quality and colorful. If you go to there website and look at there photo gallery they do have a few pics of there BLRW's but there just Rooster pics and there all Splash color aswell. You will have to go straight to a good breeder to find true BLRW's and they want be that cheap either. Anyways I hope this is helpful and not to disapointing. I myself will be selling hatching eggs and chicks if you guys are ever looking for some good quality birds. All mine come from show stock and there very nice healthy birds. I will also upload a color chart to show everyone what to expect when breeding any Blue chicken breed not just Wyandotte's.

The chick in my avatar is a BLRW that I got from Meyer hatchery. She was adorable and sweet, but passed away a week after she arrived. I think she was sickly from the start :( I don't know if you can tell as a chick if she's splash?
Anyway, I gave up on hatchery birds. I am interested in a couple of rare breeds, and feel like they're worth the wait to get from a breeder. I have 8 on order right now and hope to get them in about a month. They were about the same price as they were from the hatchery, too.
