Hen with swollen face **pic included**

I just noticed my hen has a swelling on one side of her face, around her eye. What made me notice was the fact that i thought her eye looked odd, on closer inspection her eye seems fine, just the swelling round her face making her eye look smaller.

She is puffed up slightly and not moving around a lot. From what i can tell, she is keeping that eye shut quite a bit.

There is no other symptoms and all my other chickens appear to be ok.

She is a 2 year old production red.

Not sure why or how this has happened, but i will add that she is one of the roo's favourites and her and her sister have been plucking each others faces the last few months.

When i just went out there now to check her, she fought me when i picked her up, normally she is fine with me picking her up.

What can i do and how can i treat?

Hi- I am no expert but looks infected or could it be Myco? I reckon she may need Anti biotics

By the picture it also looks like her nose might be getting stopped up. She probably has a sinus infection. She'll need antibiotics; I can't remember the name off the top of my head but I had a hen that had the exact same thing as yours so I'm going to go search for the she had now.

Thank you for the replies.

Can i give her humans antibiotics? i have peniccilin at home, here in the uk it is expensive to see a vet, let alone what they charge you on top for the medication.

I don't know if penicillin would work, I haven't used it. But you might want to look it up to see if it would; it might or it might not.

Does anyone know if i can use the human form of penicillin for my chicken. They come in 250mg capsules, which i could open and disolve in a little water and suringe into her mouth.

If it can be used, how much do i give?

Doxycycline is a better choice. Also vet rx would also help. Don't know if it's available in the UK. It's like a mentholated rub for chickens.
