I am new to BYC and raising chickens I am currently almost finished with coop and 10x18 pen I would like to start with full grown hens of a couple different breeds that are either laying or close to laying. I have heard about chickens and the diseases that can carry and to other flocks. So is it possible to buy separate birds from different locations and have them together in the same coop and pen? IDEAS?

it should be fine but when you get all the different chickens i would quaritine them for a little bit so if they do have something it would spread to anyone else and once they all seem fine you can introduce them. when introducing them they will probably fight so it helps introuding all them at the same time in a new area that none of them have been before.
good luck

Thanks For the Information there is a lot more to it than i thought. I think i will raise chicks if i want to get any different breeds.

A good choice. Bringing in adult birds is fraught with risk. Too much risk, I say. I have only ever brought in one adult bird, and that one came from my next door neighbor. Her birds are assuredly healthy.

Good luck with the future flock. You are going to love them!

ok so I am going to pick up my Black sex link hens today and i also have so chicks that we are going to raise also
