Rooster-less Eggs...??

Thread Starter

I have 2 hens and no rooster (outlawed in this city)

Any suggestions for making the eggs taste better?

For example..anything I can feed them to make up for the missing rooster.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks !!

I never heard that roosters made eggs taste better ???

But I will say, dark leafy greens are great for those nice orange yolks.

Owned by two old dogs (yellow lab and a big, red, fuzzy mutt) and four chickens (Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, and two Easter Eggers)

There is no substitute for a little fertility in your breakfast.  lau.gif

Seriously, a rooster makes no difference in egg flavor.  It's all about what the hens eat.

LOL, I never really wanted to eat a fertilized one. It kinda grosses me out! Much better without the Roo, I say. Feed them plenty of variety; a good feed, some mixed scratch grain, a little seed for a treat, and lots of veggies and fruit. I give mine big clumps of grass to pick through as well. They love to find all the squirmy worms to eat, and it's a good source of protein for them.

I know a lot of people that think fertilized eggs taste better.  Now I do have a roo and I sell them as organic, fertilized eggs, but not because I think they taste better, but people around here seem to think that fertilized is better.  I see absolutely NO difference!
