Anyone ever get RIRs from Privett Hatchery? PICS ADDED - Page 3

how bout some pics of your birds now they are a couple months old and you should be able to tell if there gonna be dark,I have production reds from privett that I've been selectively breeding for about 4yrs now and I'm here to tell ya they are awesome(BQ production reds LOL) and lay around 5eggs a week each and I've got them about twice as dark as the original birds were...I cant get my camera to down load the pics right now but I'll get some one over here who knows what there doing on this computer and get some posted, privett sells Production Reds,Rhode Island Reds, and dark RIR's,so I would say their RIR's are just that or why would they advertise all 3 separately?

There is more to a true to the breed RIR than merely the dark color.  The body shape is also critical, as is leg coloration, feather sheen, etc.

There is a long running Heritage Rhode Island Red thread here.  It's worth a look through to see what true, show stopping, RIR look like.  Birds of show quality are a one in a zillion from a hatchery.  Regular, Production, Dark, etc, etc,  All nice marketing words, but true to breed RIR are rare as hen's teeth, pun intended and cannot be bought for $3 each in a box of 50.

of course but most people aren't showing their birds they just want nice looking birds to them.SOP has very little meaning to the average back yard er and any thing much over 3 bucks a chick seem expensive to the average back yard er all so. I have SQ pure RI eggs in my bat or now they are Roy Au try lines out of Arkansas but I also have my production reds too and they are from Privett a couple gen back and good looking Pro.Reds IMO.

only sort of like a new hampshire. It is darker than a normal new hamp would be. Especially in the hackles.

Layers, ,meaties, goats, kids, and a great wife...life is great.

Hatchery permit/npip certification under way....inspector will be coming any day now!
