At what age can you tell gender? I picked up 4 SR this morning. I am hoping i can tell soon before the kids get too attached and we end up with 4 roos!

Thanks!

April

Some of them are obvious around 4 weeks because they start growing a big, red comb. Others can keep you guessing until around 4-5 months.

ok this is probably neither here nor there, but of my 4, one has a huge tail! The rest just have little tufts. Does this mean anything? I am simply adoring these little ones!!

I believe the girls usually feather in first, so I'd guess girl if it's got a lot of tail feathers already, but that is totally not 100% so don't get too set on it!

thanks! I bought four in the hopes of walking away with at least one girl. So hopefully she will be "the" one!!

Did any wind up being roos? I have 1, 6wk Speckled Sussex and I have no clue what gender it is. "she" feathered later then all my other chicks but they were all different breeds, and her tail feathers are just coming in. Her comb is very slight pink, just started and no wattles. I'd love to here how your flock panned out. I haven't found clear answers to any SS gender identifying. Thanks!
