So, I put marbles in the water as suggested. Thanks for the warning!

I have had a problem with the chicks splashing the water out. ALOT!!! So much so that the cardboard gave way due to being so wet. So now I am moving to plan B. I have fresh cardboard courtesy of Lowes. I purchased a rubber mat to line the bottom with. On top will go sand instead of pine shavings. I found a plastic dish to put under the water (upside down). It seems to be helping catch any water.

Questions, Do you think I need to put paper towel over the sand like I did with the pine shavings yesterday? They are about 5 days old. They peck and scratch at the pine shavings but all seem to be eating well. It seems like you can watch them grow!

Chicken math struck already. I brought home 2 Australorp chicks this evening. Dog crate 24x36. How many chicks will it hold? I now have 8. My chicken friend may be bringing some over on Saturday.
