Mine laid last week from 9:30 to 2:00 and the last one after 4:00 this week it's later. After 10:30 and so on. All five are mow laying and yep they all lay in the same box

My crazy dizzy chickens lay any time!  They are fat and lazy and living the good life.

Some lay at midday and other late in the afternoon.  Any time really, but NEVER before breakfast!

Will they come back into to lay once I start to let them free range?

It's not free ranging that gets them back into lay.   They'll have stopped for any number of reasons.  Length of daylight is a major one, or if they're moulting they won't lay.   If they have got overweight, that could also influence their laying capability.  Their age is also a factor; as they get older they lay fewer eggs and eventually stop altogether.

I have 8 hens. From 7:30Am till as late as 4:00 PM. Everyday.

To me, death is a spiritual thing. Everything in life must die. Everything in life, must take life in some form to live. Life begets life. We can't get around it. What we can do is respect that life. Take care of what takes care of us. Treat your food like it will soon become part of you, it will.

My hens run back into the coop and lay in a communal nest.  We have nest boxes for them but they prefer to lay in a corner of the coop, when one lays then 3-4 of the other girls will lay in the same nest.  They will even stand around waiting for their turn.  I've watched them do this.  There have been times when one of the roos will stand around and sqwak at them also.

Mine usually lay by noon.  Sometimes we'll have a straggler.  I only have 3 laying right now so they don't get too crowded in there.  It is funny how they like to use the same nesting box.  Whichever Silkie is broody at the time will move herself to whichever box they used that day to keep those eggs warm.

They are a funny bunch.

My 20 free ranging hens always return to the nest box to lay however once in a great while one of them doesn't make it back in time and drops it in the yard.

Eggs for breakfast, fried chicken for lunch, I like it deep fried with a batter for crunch. A feather filled pillow, and

hackle for flys, my roos like their chicks and my girls like their guys. So many uses for my fine feathered birds, and with that my dear friends comes an end to my words.

My girls start at 7A.M. and finish up by 4 P.M.  I let them out to free range around noon.  The ones who haven't laid yet, will go back into the coop.  One time I had 6 eggs on top of each other.  Would have loved to have seen them trying to get in the box!  big_smile.png
