Any breeders in New Zealand ?

Hello !

Do you guys know if there are any peafowl breeders in New Zealand ? I'm far from being one to be able to buy and take care of them, but that's just for me to know already.

Does any of you live in New Zealand ?

Thanks in advance ~

I know there are lots of ferrel ones there, but never met anyone who kept them.  Maybe you just need to find someone to catch a few?  When I was there several years ago, people often just shot them because they were such a nuisance in some areas of the north island.

Oh bummer, they shoot them ?? ><

I hope it is allowed to at least own them. And if so I hope my future neighbors won't mind me keeping these birds hide.gif

Have you seen any whites ? Or Greens ? When you were in New Zealand ? In Zoos or in the wild (well I don't expect greens to be wild there but, who knows...?) ?

Feral birds are found all over the northern part of the north island.  I believe they have whites and blues, but not sure about greens.  I imagine you could keep them as pets, I didn't see anybody that did.  I remember hearing them alot when I was at Auckland Botanic Gardens.  I am sure you could contact a pest control business there to find out if they are ever called to remove them.

Maybe you could talk to a local zoo or place that has them and ask if you can take some of the eggs or chicks? I went to a big cat sanctuary that has free-range peafowl before I owned peafowl and my mom said to one of the workers that I love peafowl and the keeper said "Oh well you can certainly take as many as you want. We have too many and they just all showed up here one day."

Especially if some places are overrun with peafowl I am sure they would be more than willing to let you have some for probably free.smile.png
