My hens scatter most of their food on the ground and then don't eat it!

I've seen some people advocate leaving the feeder empty one day in four to encourage the grils to clean up after themselves.

I do this with my quail. I fill their feeder, they spread half of it around like little ungrateful birds within a day or so, I then laugh at them and tell them I won't be refilling the feeder until all the food is eaten off the ground. It works.

I built a no waste feeder from this site. Best thing I ever did to control wasted feed. 6 rirs eat from this and spill nothing.:D

I made feeders like in the previous post. Its amazing. I went from 50lbs a week for my flock of 14+2 ducks, to maybe 15-20lbs a week... I never realized how much they were wasting!

It is as simple as putting a 3" PVC 90 degree elbow in the side of a 5 gallon bucket. I got the twist open lids for them too so I can refill them without help.

My chickens have done that if it is a certain food they don't like. My chickens did that with their pellets but they eventually got used to it and ate them.

I have two types of feeders one hangs. My chickens used to eat the oats. I'm mixing it the same way but now that the weather has turned they throw it on the ground. I use rolled corn barley and molasses. Sweet feed and oats.
