My turkey poults keep dying and I'm at a loss

Brooding my first turkeys now. Started with 10 newly hatched, broad breasted bronze on Wednesday. All were brave and active but did notice now again I'd see one fall on its back and not be able to get back up right. Can't tell if it was always the same bird or not. Woke up to one dead this morning and the after breakfast found one the verge. I've got it on my chest trying to warm and stimulate it now, but not seeing much 'try' from this bird. My vet and a friend who raises commercially both told me it is not uncommon for turkeys to 'just lay down and die' with no warning. Frustrating.....

Is the feed fresh (check the date on the label), and what is the protein level? BBB need high protein feed, lots of fresh clean water, and FRESH food. The vitamins dissipate and the oils go rancid in commercial feeds when stored for long.

What is your brooder temperature under the lamps, and in the coolest area?

Are you adding anything to the feed or water other than turkey/gamebird starter?

Describe the brooder, is it on concrete or dirt, is it a wire floored raised pen, is it a box or tub? Indoors or outdoors, or in an unheated barn?

Jumbo Cornish crosses and Broad Breasted turkeys do sometimes flip do to heart failure. But not typically in the first week, that comes later, especially to overfed, inactive birds.

I have two baby pea chicks so for companionship and warmth I bought a bourbon red poult and a guinea keet also. They are all healthy and doing great. But in the evening when they all bed down the turkey polt starts peeping like he is calling and needing something. Got him at the feed store where he was in a plastic tub under a light with about ten others so he isn't calling mom. What do you think he needs?? He has heat lamp and food and water.

I got the same thing happening to my turkey poults.they are very healthy and happy. I had 15 poults and now I only have 10 (5 bourbon red turkey poults and 5 broad breasted whites.I need to keep the rest alive.

please help me! What should I do?

Check ventilation as it may be infection and have trouble with breathing. I do not think food will affect that much. Could be the place that supplied them.Weak hearts or even too hot inside and boiling blood. I advise taking corpse to vet for best clue as to death. I breed six hundred turkeys from egg to oven size 10 kilo males 7 for females. Lost only one batch of ten and found it rats. Thirty years of business and kept nearly all my buyers from day one to retirement. Take to vet surgeon and that is my best advice. If supplier is at fault with vets help you may get your cash refunded.

I had a baby turkey he was fine for about 2 months would follow me everywere. Thought somethin was wrong cause he was so tame I went out yesterday and he was dead I got so attached to this turkey it kinda hurts to have it die I've never had a turkey that tame was wanting to go with me everywere. I have a water sofner but seems like he would of died wn he was younger was out with other turkeys just hate loseing him

Similar to a pony drawn I have 10 broad breasted and this is my first year raising them (I have managed to raise some chickens up last year) the first two that died I’m pretty sure we’re just too dumb to walk over to the light to get warm but the third one made me wonder if I had to show them to drink water more than just a couple of times we’ll find out in the morning, when I found number three I grabbed each one of them and stuck their beaks back in the water again I will update tomorrow sometime maybe. Next time I will definitely get a couple of chickens to go with them. Good luck everybody!

where are you located, meaning how is the weather where you are at, where is the brooder located?

I raised my turkeys in a round kiddie pool, indoor, for 2 weeks, no medicated water just medicated turkey starter, I added sugar water for the first 2 days then switched to regular fresh water.

gotta ask, but have you seen them drink their water?? I put coloured marbles in their water, and I made sure to introduce them to their water and feed several times so I knew they were aware where their food and water is.

a white light might stress them out, and seeing turkeys are so fragile this might be the cause of it. I always start mine out with a red heat lamp and then after a few days I move them where they can get natural light during the day and darkness at night....

its hard to say what is really going on here, if the heat is right and the feed is good and there are no symptoms...really puzzling, but stress could be the issue.

how old are they by the way?? is it possible they are trampling each other due to not enough room??

keep us posted.
