Chicken TV

Thread Starter

We just got our first batch ever of baby chicks yesterday.

DH laughed at me when I mentioned Chicken TV a few months ago.  As of today, he officially understands what an entertainment Chicken TV can be!  LOL

Our brooder is set up in the living room (for now) and it's so cute watching them flapping and jumping around.  I put in a piece of 2x4 and they're so cute when they flap their wings to try and get up on it.  Some are MUCH better than others but either way, it's adorable.

Their wing feathers are starting to come in really well.  I'm estimating they were about 3-4 days old by the time we got them.  7 from the "Red Pullet" bin and 6 from the straight run "Buff Orpington" bin.  I'm fairly certain 6 of the 7 from the red pullet bin are Golden Comet's.  They have the typical "chipmunk stripes" across their backs.  Not sure about the other one.  It's pretty much solid on it's back.

It's funny how getting chickens was "my" goal.  But now that we have them, the ones that came out of the TSC "Red Pullet" bin are "his" chickens, lol~!

My wife and I made a deal when we got ours, they're her chicks, but my chickens. When they grow up I claim them, but she loves the babies. And our brooder is in the living room right now too, so I know what you mean about chicken TV.

Lots and lots of chickens and still want more

LoL Chickenman ...

The whole chicken idea is something I've been trying to push for a couple of years now.  DS finally took me to TSC to get chicks yesterday.  He said he'd never get around to building a coop for me if I didn't already have the chicks.  He's a true procrastinator.  So it makes it doubly funny that he's now "claiming" the red's.

I'm so totally "egg-cited" about finally beginning our journey.  And I made sure that DH is very well aware of what chicken math is!  We're already discussing getting our next "batch" of chickens, but are going to wait at least a few months.

Chicken math is tough. We started out wanting 5 or 6, and now have 13 grown chickens, 14 1 month old's, and 14 4 day old's. It got us good, but we wouldn't have it any other way.yippiechickie.gif

LOL Yeah, I've read threads here (aloud to DH) about chicken math.

I don't know if he really believed me, until yesterday when we got chicks.  He really likes the "reds" and is wanting to get some New Hampshires.  I really like the BO's.  I'm hoping we got at least a few pullets in our straight run batch of 6.

It is real. lol  We have  Buff Orpingtons, Buff Brahmas, Welsummers, Delawares, and EE chicks. The brahmas are getting big, they are in the month old group. The BO's are my wife's favorite.
