I can't say I have a ton of experience, but I do have a nine day old Mallard duckling named Pyrrhos(getting her some companions on Friday or Saturday). She is very talkative, but I don't mind the...
This and the 5 gallon version of this product are more disappointing products from Little Giant.
I had to modify the handles on these to get them to hang straight enough to not leak (I...
If these waterers aren't fairly level they leak -- that's pretty obvious. We don't have a lot of flat level spots in our chicken areas, so decided to hang our waterers and let gravity level them...
I bought and installed several of these at one time and they all leaked right away. I removed one and took it back to the feed store where I bought it to ask for advice, and was told I wasn't the...
I have three White Chanteclers. The oldest one, Cottonball, is the head hen of our flock and is smart and kind. Our other two hens, Aurora and Borialis, are docile and lay many eggs, and are good...
I'm getting 12 chicks and they just don't sell a big enough plastic tote for the six week period they will be in my house. I was thinking of going to wal*mart and asking for the biggest box I can find. Or putting a couple boxes together with a bunch of duct tape. Would this last 6 weeks?
Thanks!!!

Yes, I have done that before and done just what you said, cut one end out of each of two boxes and taped them together. Worked perfectly.
wife to long suffering husband who has built more miles of fence, barns, coops and enclosures then one man should have to, two teenage boys, current flock of 13 assorted hens and 1 big red roo, 2 goats, 2 dogs, 4 cats, 2 bunnies and 1 cockatiel.

That's what I did, I got boxes from work (free), laid them on their longest/widest sides, cut the tops and duct taped it together. The final result is 4'x2' for our 10 chickies, and we only had to buy the duct tape.. Maybe, you could go to sears or another appliance store and see if they have any refridgerator boxes and I'm sure that would be big enough...

you can see what Ive done. Granted its for nearly 30 birds.. but this seems to be working really well. Just make sure that you put down at least one layer (preferably 2) of heavy duity tarp under them. That keeps spilage, leaks, ext from getting to the floor and makes clean up A LOT easier!

I saw that and loved the idea, that's why I posted this. I was just wondering if I should get a couple boxes I case they do go bad.

Go to a place that sells appliances and ask for a box. If you have time in advance you can ask several places as they may not have any immediately. My husband works for Home Depot and when I was brooding ducklings inside he brought me a refrigerator box. It was GREAT and huge. I blocked it off and started moving the divider as they grew. It was wonderful for 7 ducklings for almost 2 months. You can also get plastic drop clothes for the bottom. I found it easier (at least with ducklings) to just use the cardboard as a surround and tape drop cloth to the bottom with shavings on top. Ducklings are WAY more messy than chicks though so maintanence would be easier either way.
