It ended up being frostbite. My hen's toes got wet and then she went out in the cold, so her toes got frostbite. Now my hen has only half of all her toes fallen off. Your duck should be fine as long as there isn't any bleeding or anything, he should still be able to walk okay. The only problem I would see is how can a duck swim with one foot?

Hi. I had a batch of young chicks that I took out into the barn. For a few nights it was pretty cold in there, even with a heater running, and heat lights constantly on. I decided to bring them in the porch till it warmed up some more. I went to check on them, and one Americana fell over on her side. I scooped her up and brought her in the house. I put her in the tank with all of the newest chicks. This way she could get back on her feet without being picked on. She has never been the same. Her feet turned black, and really hard. Today I went to give fresh water and food, and discovered a foot. One of her feet fell off. She is doing ok. She will spend the rest if her life as a house chicken, being a guardian to all the new chicks that I incubate. She seems to love the babies.
