My 3 week old wyandottes look weird

I've raised guineas and orpingtons, but this is the first time with the Wyandottes. They seem to be picking at their

feathers aLOT and I was holding one today and looking her over and there are little white flakes on her. They've been

eating and drinking and seem okay - sorta? When they were lying down tonight their feathers relaxed some and it

seems kind of "bare" looking on their backs. I have 2 orpingtons in with them (same age) and they don't seem as

bothered. But I did think one of them was getting pecked, as her feathers look "broken".

I sure hope someone can help with this!

Thanks

well, I totally understand the pics issue. I will post pics when daylight comes and I can get them. Not sure what you're trying to say with "you have to hae ten posts first tho .. "

I'd always heard that BYC was a good, caring forum that people could come for help. Do I get help after I've posted 10 times that I have

an issue with my chicks? I'm really disappointed. I won't post 10 times about my chicks. They'll either be dead or they'll be fine. Thank

you, BYC.

wow, that's kinda rough.

I think what was meant, was you have to have 10 posts before you can post pics.

I'm just starting out here, need all the help I can get !

But the reply was she didn't have time for 10 post. They were asked for pictures and the OP couldn't post any. The poster didn't think the chicks would last through 10 post. I thought what they said was very realistic.

My 4 week old Wyandottes backs also look kinda "bare" not as much feathering as the rest of them. I am thinking that is just how they feather. Maybe those are the last to come in? Not the best picture, but can you see the back on the one on the left in the back?

Is that what you mean?

Are they picking at the feathers or pulling/eating them?  If so, that could be a protein issue.  What are they eating?

Are they picking to the point of blood?

DOGS: 4 Shih Tzu, 1 Papillon, 1 Great Pyrenees

CHICKENS: 1 BO, 2 EE, 2 WLH, 10 blue and splash JG, plus various aged JG, BO, JG/BO and JG/EE chicks, and 8 meaties.

DUCKS: Muscovy ducks: Adults, juveniles and ducklings.  6 Pekin ducks

Some threads started with basic info.

I think there is a misunderstanding.... BYC is a very helpful board. When you first sign up there is some 'fine' print. My understanding is that BYC wants to avoid spammers on the board so they limit what you can do at first. After so many (I'm not sure how many) posts you can do things like post pictures. There are people who find BYC after they are first time chicken owners and have questions and/or emegencies but can't post pictures.

Go in and make more comments and then try to post a picture. If you are still having issues contact a moderator for help... Maybe they could post for you.

Good morning - first, I'd like to say I'm really a nice person! I did not understand the "wait for 10 posts to be able to post pictures".

And it'd been a long day and I was really freaking out about my babies - sorry if I came across as rude.

Now, yes ma'm, mmtm4 - that may be just what it is. My wyandottes are golden laced, so their feathers are dark while yours

look much lighter in color, but the "bareness" seems comparable. Do yours pull at their feathers and preen alot? That's got me

worried also.

Thank you for taking time to answer my questions - this is what I'd always heard BYC folks were like! smile.png

X2

You only need 10 posts not 10 threads.  So just a few more comments/responces and you can post pics.  :)
