Chick Grower? Flock Raiser? All Flock?

I have raised many thousands of chickens. I have made feed for other small farmers and small flock owners that would amount to many more thousands of healthy birds owned by happy farmers and back yard enthusiasts.

If it makes you feel better to talk about an "on off" switch fine. the fact remains that if chickens have access to each component seperatly the will eat some of each. If they dont have access then they try and find the missing elements. this can be seen in feather pecking, canibalism, eating oystershell, egg eating, over eating defecient feed, and other behavior. If they do not find the missing elements then the health and or production of the flock will suffer.
You raising thousands of chickens doesn't really mean that much to me, I've been there done that.

I think you are set in your ways and you will/ can believe what you want you want to and we will agree to disagree.

Not that long then.

They are OMNIVORES not HERBIVORES.
Now since they are omnivores they should be feed a animal proteins based feed not a cheep vegetarian feed..

Hate to tell you but there are a few good feed mfg's and local mills out there that STILL use animal proteins in there poultry feeds and since their sales and the the demand for these feed keep going up I don't see any "era" ending anytime soon. Way to many people are feeding only poultry feeds that contain animal proteins and drop the ones that don't.

Nope, not that long.... However, I do nutrition, and diets, for more chickens, every day, than you will see in a lifetime. At my current rate of manufacture, there are more than 3 million layers that are eating feed that I design and manufacture for them. The commercial layers, that I feed, exceed ISA, and High Line guide charts, for production, egg and body weights, and mortality. None of those birds eat animal protein! Yes, chickens are omnivors, but they are not carnivors, and they will not go after an animal in the wild. They eat insects, and things of that sort. They do not eat cats, dogs, horses, or other chickens. Those sorts of things are exactly what is fed to them in feed mixes...... 90% of it, is chicken.

The only reason they ever started, was because they are dirt cheap. As it is, the FDA is looking to put a ban on feeding chickens to chickens. Everyone knows what happened when cows got fed to cows...... A worldwide disaster. Recent changes in food, and feed safety, is going to put a stop to it pretty soon anyhow.

Purina/Land-O-Lake one of the leading mfg of poultry feed still uses animal protein in their show and game bird feed, Buckeye Nutrition one of the best and most popular feed here in the N.E. still uses animal protein in there poultry feed, the list can go one.
Now if you reread my posts I said ANIMAL protein, I said nothing about using or the use of poultry in poultry feed.
There is a list of Feedstuff that is and can be considered Animal Protein.

The animal protein products, that the major feed companies use, is a product that consists of ground poultry leftovers.....It is poultry bones, feathers, and left over scraps. Feed mills are not allowed to use any mammalian products..... What did you think was in your feed?
