Chickens raiding the compost pile

Well they just love it!!  Is it bad for them to be rooting around in there?  Our compost pile is pallets screwed together like a box with the front a little lower.  We can't move it and can't move the chickens.  We would have to just rake it down and not have one....so is it OK for them to have access?

Heck, I encourage my girls to get in there. Saves me the work of turning it!smile.png

So the decaying vegetation and table scraps won't hurt them?

Won't hurt them. A lot of folk just toss in their scraps and yard clipping right in the pen, and let the chickens compost it for them. Chicken poo makes a great fertilizer, just don't put it on your plants for six months before you plan on harvesting.
