First of all, that is too sweet of you.  I appreciate the offer.  I hope everyone on here appreciates my humor over my DH's to-do list.  He's really great at building and creating and tinkering, he just has almost zero spare time.  If he knew how much I spent on those eggs, he would be getting me something in here ASAP.  So, yes, I did not get the incubator.  I'm still over here with my styrofoam shipping boxes winging it.  And I'm kind of freaking out - like eat two Ding Dongs freaking out - because the two hens in the barn that are due about the same time as me, I looked in their eggs tonight and for some reason their air cells look fatter than mine.  I brought one inside and got two of my eggs out of the incubator that were about the same size and I drew lines around all the air cells and then from the outside it looked pretty much the same.  So I got the tape measurer and measured from one side to the other across the top and that measured about the same, but theirs still looked fatter than mine.  I can't take it if I kill them all again.  I didn't measure these in grams so to be honest I don't know how accurate I am.

Mohillbilly, I obviously need an incubator that does the work for me.....and not a hen.....I can't get them to always sit when there is a good auction on!  I just haven't figured out the humidity.

That's too funny.  I am hot on the trail of some cochin eggs I have found on an auction.  I'm not going to say anything about them.  I'm just going to trot on down to the PO and pick those up when nobody's looking and stick them in with everything else.  Should he ever notice in the future, I'll just be like WOW, I think someone suckered me.  That's a funny looking silkie.  The feathers on its feet will more than likely confuse him.   Uhhhmmmmm    hu.gif

Lockdown is Friday for me........   Let's get some excitement going on    bun.gif     yippiechickie.gif      Monday hopefully the babies will be pipping out and the NPIP tester will be here at 1:00!!!!!!

Oh, BTW, he says he's only looking for disease, but if he sees something amiss he is going to be sure to point it out to us, especially since we're new to chickens.   I wonder how many violations he will find.  I keep going to the barn and looking at it through a stranger's eyes.  I hope he will understand I moved the animals into my husband manly workshop area and now the chickens are taking over the tools     hide.gif

I have an Am egg that is on day nine so we will be hatching at almost the same time.  I guess you should be pipped and zipped by the time my baby comes.  I need to check on it tonight.   It looks a little odd, but it's a swimmer.

How is that new Hova Bator today?  Did it feel awesome to put the eggs in?  I even called and they were in stock at Stromberg's.  She said if I ordered in the next 15 minutes it would ship today and be here Monday or Tuesday     hit.gif     And since I never can think of anything I want for Christmas I can't take anything back to get it......because all I got was a book!    gig.gif

How are everyone's eggs doing that are in lockdown?  Any pipps or pops yet?

One more day to go until lockdown for me.....jumpy.gif     Come on, little babies!  I have six eggs under two broodies in the barn so I think I am going to give a few to the two broodies that don't have babies and then when I hatch mine I can keep what I want and give to the girls to raise and I am selling or giving away the rest.

I am undecided on setting the eggs that came yesterday.  I don't want to  lower the temperature too much with chicks so close to being born.  I think I will start up my hatching box and at least start getting them warmed up in there.

I guess the Ameraucana eggs won't be here until tomorrow.  Oh, life is such a tease!

Two more days until the auction closes on the cochin eggs.  No on has bid on them yet.  I am claiming those for myself   love.gif   I love those little cochins.

So Friday and Monday are BIG days for me......let the good times roll!

Well, just finished getting lockdown set up. I got 21 eggs into hatching baskets and getting the humidity going up.

For the hatching baskets, I went to the section in walmart where they have the dish pans and drawer organizers and got the white plastic baskets that are in 2 packs and 3 pack. If you zip tie 2 together (top to top) it makes a great hatching basket.

Forgot to say I am a bit disappointed that none of the white eggs from the Minorca or the Ancona made it to lockdown, but I have 30 eggs in waiting.I need to take good measurements after this hatch to make a rolling turner for next time.

WOW, that is really cool.  Did you make that incubator and what is it made from?  (You don't have to give me step by step details...just wondering if it's a "cooler" or "fridge"-LOL.)

I like your "Chick Prisons"! hide.gif That's what they kindof look like - good thing they aren't black! gig.gif Is that to keep different breeds seperate for identification?
