Because sometimes you have to laugh.... When a cow gets out in NYC... - Page 3

So this is where the difference between 'city' and 'suburb' is really quite pronounced, huh? Wow, the furthest suburbs from the city centre here are a thirty minute train ride away (and that thirty minutes includes about twenty stops) If someone lives in the suburbs, you still say they live in the city. It's tiny.

But I can imagine a week probably wouldn't be enough to see all of New York.

Not too long after we moved out of the suburbs to our current home, a black bear wandered through our front yard.  I watched it from the front door, even managing to get a couple of pictures.  I went to work the next day, and told everybody about our visitor.  Everyone wanted to know what I did.  Did I chase it?  (Um, no.  It's a bear.  One of the few wild creatures around here that might actually outweigh me.)  Did I call the police?  (I can imagine the reaction from our County Sheriff's office.)  What about Animal Control?  (What would they do with a bear???  And it wasn't hurting anything - just wandering around the country, as bears do.)

I grew up in FL.  Never fails, about every other time I bring it up someone asks if I ever saw an alligator.  It's not so much the question (yes, all the time...) as the tone of voice and awe/fear in the eyes.  Makes me laugh every time.  But then I feel bad, because that can be taken as insulting...

Personally, I am WAY more scared of the 15ft snakes...

I found that when I worked in the city I also went there more too - mostly because I was more aware of things that were going on.

And yeah - Snakes creap me out!
