Question about winter light

Does the winter light for continued laying have to be in the coop? I have a very bright porch light, will that work?

I have found it is best in the coop.  In the winter most chickens stay closer to the coop or inside so the light in the coop seems most logical.  You will have more control of the light when it is in the coop too.   Also they roost in their coop so the light would wake them up earlier or keep them up later.   Some people say if you lengthen the day to only do it in the morning that way they get the gradual darkness.  I don't for the simple fact I dont want my roosters up any earlier lol.   The light is on a timer and everyone is roosted by the time the light goes out anyway.   I really think you will have better success with it in the coop, but Hey it may be surprising and the porch light may work too.

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.

My chickens don't have a coop light and I get eggs all through the winter.
