I can afford it but I am asking if there is ways to make or get food which would be more cheep than the price at which I buy my chickens food. I would never dream of eating my lovely, tame chickens!!!!!sickbyc.gif ep.gif

As long as I have my herbs, my dancing, my acting, my dog, my family, and my beloved chickens I will always be happy.

What about setting up a meal worm farm?

Whoever said don't count your chickens before they're hatched clearly never tried to count chickens after they're hatched.

Yeah I have Meal Worms and they are really easy to take care of! I have maybe $85 in over 10,000 mealworms!

I feed my chickens

3 Layer Crumbles at $11.50 a bag

3 12% all stock pellets at $6.40 a bag

1 Corn Chop at $6.00 a bag

Total $59.70

and mix all that together. Keeps the geese, chickens, ducks, and pigeons all feed and happy.

I stoped buying them the high price layer pellets because they were just waisting it.

all lay great and Thats for 2 weeks worth of feed. For around 200 birds.

Chickens I raise are: Standard Mohawk Rhode Island Reds, English BBS Orpington, Silkied Amerucanas, Bantam Mille Fleur Cochins, Paint Silkies, Bantam Spangled Old English, and Bantam White Laced Red Cornish
Other Birds: Pigeons, Call Ducks, SQ Exhibition Rouens, Fawn and White Runner Ducks, Chocolate Muscovys,  Eqyptian Geese, SQ African Geese, Canadian Geese, and 4 Emus

What kind of feeder do you have. Chickens waste a lot of food. I built a feeder off someone's specs from byc a year ago and cut my feed way down. No waste. It is a PVC pipe with two elbows at the bottom. You fill it from the top so it is gravity fed. They can reach the food but it is to far down for them to throw it out. I also give mine any kitchen scraps. I throw it all in the coop and they eat what they want then I rake up the rest.
