One Run, Two Coops?

Hypothetical question. Let's say I had one small coop attached to an enclosed run, and due to chicken math ended up with more hens than could roost comfortably in the coop.

If I built another coop attached to the same run, would the girls work it out amongst themselves who sleeps where? Or would it be like the Hatfields and the McCoys?
 
Here's my situation I have two coops & raise two different flocks. I let them free range all together everyday & come bed time they all go to their own coops. The two flocks never intermingle except my one roo he likes all the lady's LOL so I really don't care where he roost but low & behold he goes to his coop as well. I think he wants to move but so far he goes to his original coop. All you can do is try out what your trying to do. I honestly think there's no one way to raise chickens. Its trial & error. JMO.

My grandfather tried that and the hens tried to all go into one coop. They would squeeze themselves into one coop, it was a mess. He just put up a fence to make two runs.
 
I have 4 coops. two coops per run. One coop at each end of the run. The chickens share the run and then at night go into their respective coops. Sometimes one will enter the other coop just to check it out, but always go to their own coop at night.
 
I am about to enter just such experiment.

I have a smaller coop for multi-purpose (growing-out, quarantine, convalescent, etc.) But things have been very uneventful at the ranch and the smaller coop has been vacant for a long time.

I plan to move it close to the big coop, connect it to the big run with a smaller run that can be partitioned off when necessary.
 
I'm starting to build a new coop and I want to make it a multiple coop with one Run... would you mind sharing pictures... thanks
