When the girls first moved outside. The bantams weren't quite big enough yet. And that's Big Red. Their Mother Roo. He takes his mothering quite seriously too. He loved me until they came along.

He'd been working quite alot. I think they missed him. It started as a greeting fest until the sun started going down. then they decided it was roosting time

Big Red and Pretty Girl.

Star (Black Sex Link), Chicky Poo, and Cricket

Cricket. The Only roo I got outta 6 chicks. Pretty good odds I think.

Happy Feet the Extreme Frizzle. Happy Feet and Cricket decided they were my chickies and mine alone. They're the only ones that stop for photo ops for me. The others I have to catch on the go

So I went out to the pen 2 days ago and this is what I found

1000

Upon further inspection, there were 7 more.

1000

Some are hiding in the curves of the igloo.  I don't know how long these had been there so I marked them with an x and put them back to encourage more laying.

Apparently it worked because yesterday I had 9 and today 10.

I didnt get pics of todays egg but it was a bantam and cream colored. I'm thinking it was the cornish game hens egg. If so she's laying quite well because a few of these are the same. I'm not sure what came from who. They are all laying in the same place. There are 3 different types of eggs though so atleast 3 of my 5 girls are laying for sure the 2 bantams. and I'm thinking the black sex link but could be the buff colored hen(chicky poo). I'm not sure what she is or the white one(Pretty girl). I'm thinking Pretty girl is a white leghorn and Chicky Poo a gold Sex link? Any thoughts? They all came from atwoods who orders from Ideal. Big Red is from Atwoods last Year. He's an Ideal 236. just 2 black spots on his whole body.

The chicks are not quite 5 months so I wasn't really expecting any eggs until mid-late august. And I'm sure my fellow Kansans could agree that with this heat (110 my therm says today and still going up) I'm lucky to have anything! It's so exciting and I hope they continue at this rate or better!
