Roost Height

How high is to high? What is to low? the newbies want to know!

Oh, and what kind of slope should I be aiming for in a ramp for them?

I'm planning building a coop from scratch, with a row of nesting boxes topped by a poo tray and roost. I plan on getting full sized hens, hopefully austrailorps. How high can i expect them to jump into the nesting boxes or to get on a roost?

My roost in this coop isInside the coop 001.JPG  probably too high but chickens like to roost at the highest level. If you look on the opposite wall you will see my nesting boxes. I don't like to bend over to gather eggs. Some say the birds should be able to flap their wings once when departing the roost & landing on the ground. Just give them a good unobstructed runway to land on. Other words nothing in their way.

I'm out of eggs. But I know where some brown ones are. I now raise big Ol' Honkin' Bob Whites & Layed back Coturnix. Pray For Rain In Texas!
