RANT: Tractor Supply won't sell less than six chicks!!! - Page 2

I TOTALLY understand that....people do get chicks cause they're cute and then can't take care of them, that really is terrible.

But if that is the reasoning behind it, why couldn't they just tell me that to begin with?  I told them I had four full grown chickens.

I have been buying feed and supplies from them for a year.  I am not buying them as Easter presents, I could show them my credit card statements to prove that...if this is the case why are real chicken owners being punished??  :(

I am thinking about doing exactly this!!!!  That would be more fun and I could get more variety, anyway! lol.png

I've seen those three egg incubators...might have to check those out...

Our Rural KIng in Il. started with townline hatchery this  year (was Cackle)  and now all the sudden they have a new min. to buy rule , I have no idea whats going on there. but our city ordinances says I can't sell less then 6 or 8 chicks under the age of 6 or 8 weeks at a time to anyone customer (over the age of 6 to 8 weeks any amount can be sold ,  I can't remember the exacts but maybe Rural King is just going by the Macon County Rules? Funny all the sudden they follow the County Guidelines, so I think its more of a case of hatchery policies, or..........Rural King trying to make the most of the chick sales??? Needless I walked out without any this weekend. hit.gifvery disappointed!

That really sucks! But they have to abide by the county rules or city rules of people buying chicks. I sold chicks for less than that and more than that. Like they really have to enforce it and they are weak about it. Experienced chick folks know how to get it and if that is all I have, that is all I have.

Sounds like Rural King has their rules, six chick min. so folks don't get into the Easter thinking. Six chicks are nothing, really because at the first year, you would lose maybe one or two and later down the line, you might lose your older chickens for any reason. Eventually it will all balance out.

Your right Robin and  I totally understand the rules but it just wasn't like that last year, and the city hasn't changed the policy about chicks so... just kinda confused,  I was just curious as to why the change all the sudden??  I'm really not to worried about it, I  have plenty of chickens and 3 broody's already...sitting LOL.. Was hoping to get some Buff Orps. this year, though.  And Townline doesn't have a very big selection either.  At least not like Cackles Selection.

And the easter chick thing I totally understand that too..... But then  the people who buy them for their kids or whatever for a little easter present can, abuse for a lack of a better  word to use, 6 chicks as easily as they can one.

If you can get an incubator, I would be glad to send you some free EE eggs if you will pay the shipping (10.80 for a flat rate box).  We are over run with eggs from our ladies :)

I remember seeing them at Rural King for Buff Orps. Pretty tho!

Right now they have listed in the ads for RIR pullets for 1.99 each and limit six chicks.

Same rules here in Va at TSC.6 Minimum of chick's and ducklings.I went last weekend intending to get 6 bantams and left with 16  lol.I guess thier rules do help fend off Rash first time buyers and the Easter Egger's that buy these for young children.I always had people calling around Easter and  had to grill perpective buyers.Ducklings are super messy, most people who never had any have No IDEA!Personaly I'm hoping they get more bantams' in this week.Wanted to get some OE or millie fleur.I lucked up and got 10 silkies last buy.The employees usual dont know diddly about the chicks or anything.Ive been there Tinydancer. One year I had to buy 3 White Leghorn chicks just so I could get the 3 little duckling's that were left.I Highly doubt they will ever change thier selling rule's.I see the aggravation point though from people who already have bird's though.Local ad's, trader papers the like usualy have people selling chicks.Doesnt hurt to check them out.
